Cleanliness and hygiene needs to be redefined in India

Today most of us are going through toughest period of our life with #corona lurking on every doorstep. We are sitting in the lockdown. COVID19 is putting the most serious challenge to whole world. And to fight it we have to reconsider our complete approach towards personal hygiene.
Normally in India, we have very casual approach towards cleanliness and sanitation. A broom is the most widely used tool for cleaning. In houses of middle class and upper class, floor mopping with Lysol or some herbal floor cleaning chemicals is done. By these basic cleaning methods, we feel happy and safe.
But have we thought what are the other very important aspects that are major sources of contamination and infection. These can be:
  1. Our furniture, sofa, curtains, bed mattresses, bed sheets - what we do about them. Cleaning in detergent in a month or so. Vacuuming sofa and furniture once in a month or twice (that also in very few houses)
  2. The air inside our house - It is a known fact that the air inside our house is more dirty compared to outside. It draws carbon mono dioxide and other pollutants from outside and in addition it adds up impurities contributed by us, our kitchen, our toilets and our pets. Many people smoke, making the air of our house poisonous.
  3. Toilets and Washrooms - We mostly depend on cleaning of pot by harpic, but hardly deep clean our toilets and washrooms in totality.
Further, so far, we remain confident about cleanliness of our homes with the thought that living there is all family members and individual members of family can contaminate the house. So we are very casual about our towels, napkins etc that are used commonly by every member.
But ingress of Corona COVID19 has made it very clear that each and every family member can lead to infection and contamination because he is working in different office, meeting different people and having different lifestyle.
So now we need to review our total approach of cleanliness and hygiene in our homes and shift it from casual and part cleaning like sweeping, mopping, toilet cleaning to total disinfection and sterilization complete home, that will include:
  1. Room air
  2. All furniture
  3. Carpets and foot mats
  4. All home fittings
  5. Kitchen
  6. Disinfection of shoes and personal belongings
  7. Our mobile phones that have become major source of disinfection
We have to go for sanitizers that can do all of above in minimum time and with minimum efforts, as in homes we do not have domestic help which will go on cleaning, dusting and mopping each and every thing in our house and we can make this cleaning process a day and night long chorus.
